Host a Rum Tasting Party or Make Some Cayman Cocktails
What could be more “Cayman Islands Style” than a rum tasting party featuring some of the Caribbean’s most famous rums? Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned rum drinker, this is a fun way to party with friends.
We highly recommend the renowned Clement Rhum Agricole from Martinique, the award-winning Gosling’s Black Seal from Bermuda, Pyrat Rum from Anguilla, 10 Cane Rum from Trinidad, and Appleton Rum from Jamaica, the most popular rum in Cayman.
Or make your party even more memorable by serving some authentic Cayman-style cocktails. Here are a few of our favorites:
Cayman Mudslide: Mudslides are a “thing” on Grand Cayman, and legend says this now-famous version was created at the Wreck Bar & Grill at Rum Point on the northern tip of the Island (where they continue to serve more than 400 per day). Make a proper Cayman Mudslide by blending together about a cup of ice per serving with equal parts of Absolut vodka, Kahlua, and Bailey’s Irish Cream until the mixture is smooth. Pour into glasses. For a finishing touch, garnish with cinnamon, a maraschino cherry and a shot of Kahlua down the straw.
Rum Punch: It’s hard to go wrong with a refreshing Cayman-style rum punch. Make two quarts by combining one 11.3 ounce can each of mango nectar, guava nectar and strawberry-banana nectar, 6 ounces pineapple juice, 6 ounces of orange juice, 6 ounces of cranberry juice, six ounces of water, and 12 ounces of your favorite Caribbean rum. Squeeze in the juice of two limes and add the rinds to the pitcher. Serve over ice.
Bikini Martini: Created by the mixologists at the Cayman Spirits Company, this cocktail is colorful and delicious. Fill a mixing glass with ice. Add 1 ounce each of Gun Bay Vodka, Governor’s Reserve Coconut Rum, and fresh pineapple juice. Shake vigorously and strain out over a cocktail glass. Pour ¼ ounce of Grenadine slowly into the center. Garnish with an orange slice.
